We were without electricity for most of Sunday (all overhead cables round our way). We have a gas fire and a gas hob, but everything else is electric. I was quite happy sitting by the fire and doing some long overdue flute practice, but Mr Frog was going stir crazy without being able to watch sport on tv and without being able to put the Sunday dinner in the oven.

Did anyone else have a power cut? And how dependent are you on electricity?

bednobs - yep, I do exactly the same thing. Although yesterday it was 'Oh well, I'd better get on with the ironing then.'
we keep our ipod fully charged , put batteriesin te dock and dada music ,candlelight ,fire and a bottle of wine -nice evening , we get about half a dozen cuts a year too.
ps we also keep a camping stove in the kitchen so we do get to eat something hot.
Kiki. You didn`t think to knock out a few Morris tunes to keep him occupied?!!!
You could have had a fun afternoon.
Bad luck!
No, we didn't. When we do get one, a rare event, it's brief. We had two recently as a result of thieves stealing some cable. We are very dependent on electricity, which powers far more, from the boiler to the computers, than in the past.
Years ago, there seemed to be one every time there was a thunderstorm and quite a lot when there wasn't. We kept a stack of candles and matches in the kitchen and the sitting room, for that frequent event.

Nanny - you sould like a good woman to have around in a crisis!
gness - he was so fed up, the poor lad couldn't even muster the smallest caper. Maybe I should have got the bells out as well.
Fred - that cable theft is just plain evil! As you say, we're dependent on electricity, and that could quite literally be the difference between life and death for some folks. Grrrr.
Yes, at 6,30pm for roughly 20mins. The power came on, but my tv and
broadband no. So had to ring Virgin, had tried booting it myself, no luck,
the girl said it should be on by 9.30pm, but the signal was on again by 7.30pm.
Nope - no cuts here, just a lot of debris and a number of trees down, still v. windy. Can ccok with an Aga, (back boiler), and fires here. It's the country and back of beyond.

Mr Frog probably didn't like the whistling?
