What do you reckon?

They are talking about taxing 'unhealthy' food to subsidise 'fresh' food.

cheaper carrots, more expensive Turkey Twizzlers? Nice if it works, but I wonder.
Can see a case for it as public education capaigns have failed miserably but can see all the little chavvies starving as no one in their families knows how to cook real food
I think they are running out of things to tax now people have stopped smoking and reverted to cheaper, efficient cars

I think this is done in the guise of health, the reality is its another way of raising money
sounds good in theory

but i'll still be eating cake and sausage rolls, even the hot ones, esp the hot ones
Agree with cazzz.

I was watching Loose Women. A few good points made. A block of cheese, good for you in small amounts. Not good if you eat the whole block in a day.

Where would that fit? Healthy/unhealthy?

Another point made...

Turkey Twizzlers (they weren't actually mentioned) go up in prise. So the single Mum who would have bought them, and a few apples, but now only can afford to buy the Turkey Twizzlers. Isn't that counter productive?
Fats are the substances that make food tasty and without them, eating would be pretty boring.
I would not be in favour of taxing them.

Now......there is a body of opinion, even amongst some doctors ( not me) which would argue that carbohydrates are the killers, NOT fats and as such the Government would be taxing the wrong items.
Simple,.....another way for the public to pay more to the government for their mere existance....to$$ers!!

I find it hard to believe that families, and apparently it's true, survive on junk food alone.

Sqad...fat is fine, when eaten with other things, veg, fruit...etc.
If its a fat tax will the tax be on oils too, as you say ummm a little of everything is best , everyone would each healthly if they could.Sadly carbs fill and most carbs taste better with fat added. Think a bit more money to those in most need ould be better.
Not uncommon to see the local mums leaving farm foods or the local independant freezer shop with trollies full of sweet cereals, bags of chicken nuggets, pizzas, catering size packs of chips , fish fingers white sliced bread and slabs of cheese... nearest thing to veg is tins of beans and alphabetti spaghetti .... and bottles of cheap pop... Now of course they might dump that lot at home and pop out for some nice fresh veg but somehow I doubt it..
i left sains this monring with mini jammie dodger bags, bag of sour pastilles and a loaf of bread & some cherries :-)
sweet cereals, bags of chicken nuggets, pizzas, catering size packs of chips , fish fingers white sliced bread and slabs of cheese

All my favourite things!

:-(
It won't work any more than increasing the duty on cigs has - people will got without other things so they can keep buying fat food. The number of kids who buy their breakfast in Macdonalds here appals me.
I am still suffering the aftermath of trying pickled onion monster munch... yet I've seen the mums round here give it to tots in buggies...stll I've seen the daft bovines give their little ones pepsi max as well.... well its sugar free innit....
I've seen that too, rowan, coke in a baby bottle.... aargh
A young work colleague of mine once told me of how astonished she was that her young son's nursery (he was 3ish at the time) took her to task for sending him with a sippy cup of coffee- she genuinely was puzzled why they didn't like it!
I'm all for it
well im not, if i don't get my daily fat intake, i might have to resort to eating people....c'mere Mr Talbot :P
