Spontaneous Honey Leak!

I've just opened a cupboard to find two unopened jars of honey have spontaneously sprung a leak.

They have been in the cupboard untouched for at least a couple of months.

I can't remember when they were bottled but I think it was when the weather was quite cool, I'm wondering if the change in temperature has made the honey expand and thus leak.

Can anyone suggest any other reason?

You could claim it's a miracle and charge people £5 a time to see the Holy Honey. Especially if you draw a quick outline of Mary where it's spilt. Tell people that you tasted some of it and it cured your measles. You don't have measles? Well there you go then - case proved.

But I think it's probably just a sudden change in temperature that caused it.

LOL, I just need a slice of toast with the face of Jesus on it and I have life long financial security!

The thing that is bugging me is I think that the honey was in a cupboard on an outside wall back when we had the good weather in March. I've since moved it to a cupboard that is in the middle of the kitchen, which I would think, is less susceptible to temp variations.

Over analysing things, moi?
Was it in plastic, presumably?

They might have been biodegradable bottles, which have biodegraded...

No, glass jars.
fermentation producing gas ?

Good answer Howard, it's not my honey but I'm pretty sure the (experienced) producer in question would be scrupulous in her practices.
two unopened jars.... I'd have made honey cake with em by now...
I think the expansion idea is as good as any

Ratter, brilliant pic. I like to think that devout pilgrims queue up so that they can kiss the dog's bum.

Thanks John, it looks and tastes fine.

Ratter, there is no way I'm spreading my honey on THAT!
