I watched TOTP2 last night and The Goodies were on doing The Funky Gibbon.
I know a lot of songs and TV shows do not age well, but i always found the Goodies to be utterly unfunny at the time, and surely no-one could even raise a smile at this turgid tosh.
As Mark Radcliffe said with thypical dry wit - "You had to be there ... but probably best that you weren't!"
On 24 March 1975 Alex Mitchell, a 50-year-old bricklayer from King's Lynn, England, died laughing while watching an episode of The Goodies, featuring a Scotsman in a kilt battling a vicious black pudding with his bagpipes. After twenty-five minutes of continuous laughter Mitchell finally slumped on the sofa and expired from heart failure. His widow later sent the Goodies a letter thanking them for making Mitchell's final moments so pleasant
As a chart hit is wasn't supposed to be impressive, it was one of those silly things that become a hit every now and again. But the series as a whole was amusing. Rarely belly laugh stuff (although occassionally) but usually smile material.
