I work in a sandwich bar, yesterday a lady came in shop and ask if we did RUSSIAN SALAD, we dont, plus we dont even know the ingredients which is in it!

Does anyone know, its got us 5 girls thinking ( even my boss who has been in the catering trade for quite some time & he did'nt know either!!! )  :-)

we use to get served it at school, as I recall there it was chopped cold leftover veg in salad cream

this is more like I can remember from school. if you google on "recipe for russina salad, there are loads

Don't know if you can still buy it but Heinz used to do russian salad in a tin ! We used to get it at school too & as woofgang suggests it was almost certainly left over bits and bobs in salad cream .... cubes of carrot, beetroot, sweetcorn etc.

You don't have to use your imagination too much to guess what it was popularly called at school !

the tins from heinz are still available, they call it vegetable salad now and very good it is too!
Gilli, schoolgirls will be schoolgirls (even though we are adults now!!)
Whenever I make Russian Salad for my fiance he always calls it 'potato salad'. In Russian it can also be called Vinegret.
