I am flying with Thomson from Birminghm to Kefalonia and my baggage allowance is 15kg. On the website it sys you can take 5kg hand luggage. Does anyone know if this is in addition to the 15kg or whether the 5kg hand luggage has to come out of the 15kg allowance. Thanks

in addition
That`ll be in addition to checked luggage
We have just flown with Thomson to Cyprus and the suitcases were weighed at check-in as usual, then the hand baggage was weighed separately (never had that weighed before). So I think the answer to your question is 'in addition'.
Interestingly, it wasn't weighed on the return journey.
Always in addition. Be careful with the weights, they are very hot on it at the moment! Also the security check you walk through is vigorous at the moment, don't wear any chunky metallic jewellery or you will set the alarm off and they will frisk you - it happened to me last week, apparently my heavy silver heart necklace and silver cuff bangle were to blame .................
Also keep to the precise measurements of your hand luggage, we had to put it in a frame at the boarding Gate just to make sure it complied to rules, but we flew with Ryanair who are always a pain!

Thats brilliant thanks I know that I can put some extra stuff in my hand luggage if I need to now
We took a set of digital luggage scales with us a couple of weeks ago and they came in handy for coming home when we were working out where to put all the extras we got. As others have said many airlines are getting hot with weight limits.
the worst ones are the new state of the art airports on long haul the suitcase goes on their scales and if you are over it automatically prints out a ticket for excess payment and there is nothing you can do except pay it !
Taking digital luggage scales is a good idea but how much do they weigh in themselves ?
As others have said, the hand luggage is in addition and must not be larger than 56cm long x 45cm wide x 25cm deep. There is a frame at check-in and the hand luggage must fit in it.
Dee Sa, my digital scales are quite light and it does make it easier when trying to make each case roughly the same weight. Takes the guess work out of it.
Look at the link for Thompson's hand baggage size, a lot of airlines have different sizes which makes things even more testing.
