Blood sugar
7 Answers
I'm booked in for a fasting glucose test on Monday as have had yeast infection like symptoms again and my wee (going a lot) has been smelling sweet and with the blurred vision in mind. Dr said it was last done a couple of years ago, I think because of the recurrent groin abscesses.
I felt really funny on and off yesterday and today, jittery, a bit shaky and lightheaded and hot and sweaty so made sure I ate properly, decent meals and keeping sugar levels up - been really hungry which I figure is the steroid injection I had at rhumatology.
Had some near faints later today and got a bit panicky (and overthinking with recent blurred vision and such), had a load of cordial before I left wrk and sugary coffee after work to try and perk myself up a bit then tried to get my blood sugar tested in a pharmacy but one didn't do it and the other's machine had broken so ended up in the walk in. Saw a really nice nurse who said my blood sugar was low and asked if I'd eaten today - I had eaten breakfast, lunch and snack bars and had lots of fluids. She said she was happy for me to go home as long as I ate a decent meal and rang my GP in the morning (had earlier said she may sent me straight to A&E depending on the reading). Home now and had some toast with tinned ravioli.
I'm not diabetic or anything like that so could the blood sugar thing be related to the steroid injection I had, sure I read something about how it can change your blood sugar which is something to do with the reason you want to eat a lot and put on weight (have had the serious munchies this time!)?

Aww thanks lcg x Definitely feeling less jittery but still feel starving and urgh, tummy is really not happy - didn't help leaving work in monsoon like weather (even the bus was leaking!) and getting soaked.
Need to go find stuff ready for spa day tomorrow but feel exhausted now so just going to veg on the sofa. Got some extra munchies and also had some cheeky hot wings from KFC on home (quick fix) after the nurse said to eat soon. Handily the walk in I went to in in Boots in our shopping centre so food court right near as just wanted to get home. Very sleep now so might just head for bed soon and sort things in the morning.
Hope it's quiet in the spa tomorrow as I look knackered and rubbish (and a little apprehensive about wearing a swimming costume for the first time in years!), will be just my luck there will be loads of lovely men around the gym there - hmmm...might take some sunglasses, hides the puffy dark circles and means for less obvious peeking :) Sooo looking forward to relaxing!

Thanks Woolfgang. Feeling a lot less jittery now and actually had more energy than normal this weekend which has been great (gotta love steroids!), been able to feel a bit more my old self and get out and about a bit more.
Had my fasting blood test done at the docs this morning and they said to ring in about a week for the results.
I'm wondering if the malabsorption thing could be causing issues too as it's been worse since I had my gallbladder out and the meds aren't helping it like they did before. Can't be great when things are being rushed through your system and not being digested properly.
The sweet smell when I wee is really strange though and had an abscess come up down there again (had one about a month ago - all round the site I had a nasty one removed a while back) and with the blurred vision and it looking like a yeast issue is back it will be interesting to see if anything is blood sugar related. I'd have thought that would have been with high blood sugar though whereas mine was low after eating all day and a fair bit of sugar and some carbs. Will have to wait and see what the tests say!
