Wine of the Week (slight return)
14 Answers
One of my favourites has just come back into stock at Avery's.
Nominally only a Vin de Pays d'Oc, but actually a really excellent Chateauneuf-du-Pape lookalike - a terrific, fruity red and absolutely the dog's bits with barbecued meat.

The link is to their wine website, but it should be in the stores for a similar price (perhaps just a few pence more).

Funnygirl:
Gallo's Summer Red is (a little) unusual in that it's best served [lightly] chilled. That's not my personal opinion; it's what Gallo recommend:

(Actually, that's probably true of most un-oaked, light-bodied wines).
If you like that wine, put a note in your diary to look out for the 2012 Beaujolais Noveau in the second half of November. (Theoretically, at least, it's available from 0001 on 15/11/12) and remember to LIGHTLY chill it. (It's a wine, not a lager; you'll lose all the flavour if you over-chill it!)
In the meantime, treat yourself to a bottle of Asda's 'Extra Special' Beaujolais Villages, for £5.97 (again, served at a little below room temperature).

Morning OG - I too hope that NoM will revive the weekly thread when she is a bit more settled with job etc.
The Avery's wine in my original post is a good, solid, robust red.
If you feel in the mood for something a bit special then this American Zinfandel is great :

depends on the price you want to pay - a very 'lower end 'goodie is Gallo merlot 2010 - usually plus or minus £7.50 a bottle - at my local £5.75 so have a case or two stocked. Is 13% which is medium but not really, some of the wines at 14.5% are serious stuff. I did find a really nice red at 11% but forgot to keep the empty!!!
