Cooked chickens in supermarkets

Were you aware that from tomorrow the government is putting VAT on spit-roasted chickens - they sneaked that one in didn't they? We often buy one for quickness from Tescos, great to eat after a weary shopping trip, but probably not so often now :(

Gosh just worked out that a £4.49 chicken will now cost £5.26 ish - that is so unfair.

Tesco have gradually been putting theirs up bit by bit - the large one costs around £5 ish and is getting smaller and smaller......

They are also putting VAT on Muscle Building Protein Powder and other health products.

Good oldTesco out of the goodness of it's heart (what heart?) will knock the extra off the price to compensate ... Maybe!..they are so kind in little ways like that...;0))

Yeah...I think it's just supermarkets and shops like Greggs.

I think we already pay VAT on takeaways from MaccyD's and Chinese etc..

I'm sure you're right, I've a vague memory of restaurants menus saying salads are zero rated.
VAT stinks. ☺

hear, hear alba. reduce vat, or abolish it altogether, and then the economy will (may) recover. can't see it happening though.

I think the reason they introduced this is to bring it in line with other hot takeaway food.

We more or less pay VAT on everything. Few things are exempt. Is it biscuits or cakes that are exempt? Remember the million+ rebate M&S got? They gave it to charity, I believe.

Countries aren't cheap to run.

When VAT was first introduced (late 60's/early 70's) it was called something else then. It was supposed to be on luxury items only.
Since when did gas and leccy become a luxury item?

They aren't fully rated though, are they? It used to be about 5%.

might be easier if we didn't give quite so much away. i'm not saying stop all aid but am sure that it is an area that needs to be examined. and more than a little bit seems to be wasted. more value for our money should be enforced perhaps.

I won't buy them with or without VAT as I understand they are the poor battery hens. The day I see a Free Range Organic Ready Cooked label on one is the day I might consider buying one. Pity because I understand they are delicious.
