I know this has probably been covered before (just discovered how BAD aspartame is) but, can anyone suggest safe alternatives -without the after-taste please?
Thanks.....

I use Nutrena which doesn't have an aftertaste, but you can only buy in Spain these days (I find).
Why not use sugar?

I use Splenda, but I think all things you consume has it's own taste which we all perceive slightly differently, what seems fine to one seems odd to another, so you may just need to try a few and see which you find acceptable. (It wouldn't surprise me if sugar had an aftertaste we have all got so used to we don't notice any more.)
It's very easy to give up sugar in drinks and for cooking one should only use sugar, not artificial sweeteners.
I didn't find it easy at all. After a year of unsweetened coffee I asked myself why I was doing it to myself, and went back to coffee that tasted pleasant.
Like Splenda as I'm diabetic

Xylitol-based sweeteners are the best in my opinion, because they tend to have fewer additives (it's basically a natural sweetener found in a lot of plants), and fewer potential side-effects. It's the sweetener they use in most sugar-free chewing gums.

Sainsbury's do one called Total Sweet, and I'm sure the other supermarkets have their own version. And you can get it at any health food shop.
Truvia - you can buy it in most supermarkets. It's made from a natural leaf and, as they say, if it's from the ground - it's sound :-)
You can also buy pure Stevia, but you'd need to go online to get this. Truvia is just as good. If you really are giving up aspartame (excellent choice!) then be sure to look out for it in absolutely *everything* - especially where you'd least expect it. Yogurts, most diet/low fat products, calorie free drinks, table sauces (found it in a bottle of ketchup - switch for organic), chewing gum and sweets. I had to swap my favorite no added sugar Ribena for the 'full fat' stuff, as that also has it in, but I'd rather a few extra calories than something which is proven to be linked to cancer. Hope that helps :-)

Wouldn't it be easier if they just banned the stuff?.....
I use Half-spoon which tastes exactly like sugar with no bitterness - but then it is half sugar!
xylitol is made from plant fibre and is a laxative.
Avoid if you have IBS or other bowel problem.

Well, yes. They have done in Japan and (I think) Hawaii.
I've tried Stevia and I found that had exactly the same after taste as all the other sweeteners...

We just bought "Via" which I think is based on Stevia-hence the title and that also comes with quite a unique pouring spout on the side AND no apparent after-taste.....Good product
