Hi there, we opened a carton of custard 6 days ago, just used a bit and then put in the refrigerator. Can we have the rest today? It says eat within three days of opening but do you think this would be okay? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't.
I would.
I doubt it. Custard is made with milk and that goes off well before 6 days (unless it's UHT milk).
If it smells ok have a little taste. If it tastes ok, get it eaten!
Yeah................ why waste 38p
its not like you've made it fresh from eggs and milk -it will have that many preservatives in it it would probably last another week - as long as it has'nt anythiing growing on it I'd go for it
Daffy654 is right in saying that custard is made with milk. But the difference here is that in the custard the milk will have been boiled, so it will keep longer than fresh milk when opened. Magsmay is wrong about preservatives in ready-to-serve custard - there aren't any. They aren't needed because the product goes into the carton sterile, and the cartons prevent any spoilage for a very long time. Open the carton so you can see inside. If there is any mould on top, scoop it off with a spoon. Then eat the rest. The mould will probably be some sort of penicillin - not toxic, perhaps even good for you.

Thanks very much for this. I actually did taste a bit and it was absolutely fine but decided not to risk it and chucked it. However, now I've read all your posts I think next time I'll just eat it if it tastes okay. Thanks though!!
totally pointless !!
