When I was living and working in Baltimore in the early 90s, I went to the opening night of the first ever Indian restaurant in Maryland, or so they claimed...
The waiters were so amazed when I ordered the meal using the Indian terms that they gave us the whole meal free... :-)

Flippin' heck I hadn't realised she was quite that old.
I absolutely love her food and her vindaloo recipe is the best ever. She doesn't try to over Anglicise and simplify he recipes like so many others do.
You're right about Indian food in the US Mark, they've even started adding spices too. In the early days it was so tame it was funny, you'd still see the Americans sweating like crazy though!

I'm catching up with more of the programmes she's made. The more I see of this woman the more I love her (I didn't think I was into hero worship).
Her calm and soothing manner and wonderful knowledge of food id so inspiring. Seeing her visiting a Sikh temple where they might feed 1,000 people a day, for free, is astonishing.
It is wonderful to see such a variety of healthy dishes that are good for the heart and the soul. The vibrancy of Indian food is something that so few in the UK experience due to the Anglicisation of Indian restaurant menus, such a shame.
