Just bought one of these which has a net over it and then vacuum packed in plastic. The instructions for cooking it have me a bit puzzled.
For roasting it says remove outer packaging, leave net on.
For boiling it says leave in original packaging...does that really mean boil it in the plastic??
I'm all for taking the plastic off but himself thinks it should be left on. What would you do?
Thanks.

Leave it on, if that's what it says - the heat of the water will go through the plastic. (You only take it off for roasting because it would melt in the oven.)
I'd be inclined to remove it from the plastic, soak the gammon to remove any excess salt and then simmer it in cider. However this is my preference.

If I were you I'd cook it according to your preferred method.

There is nothing wrong with the CostCo directions.
