Hi. If a person drinks a bottle of wine a night, what kind of damage could they be doing to themselves? Thanks

Besides a major headache.I would say some liver damage and hopefully there not a violent drunk.Remember not to drink and drive!

According to a few sites a looked at, a 75cl bottle of wine is 9 units of alcohol.  Women should have up to 1-2 units per day, men 3-4.  Consuming 3+ units is "not advised as a sensbile drinking level".

The long term effects of drinking can be seen here but this information is not specific to wine.  Drinking 63 units a week, instead of the recommended 14 (for a woman) - 28 (for a man) - is clearly AT LEAST 3 times as much as recommended.  This is really dangerous.  A person who is unable to stop such a habit should contact their GP or AA on  0845 769 7555 - http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/

However, there is a school of thought that red wine is actually good for you. something to do with antioxidants or something.

apparently the french have the highest rate of life expectancy and lowest incidences of of heart disease in europe despite having quite a fatty diet. one theory for this is the amount of red wine they drink which helps ot reduce cholestorol
