Ever smoked foreign cigarettes or 'tobacco' which seemed a little less than right (though legal)? Old soldiers used to talk of 'Camel' cigarettes which tasted as though they had more camel product than tobacco, but surely this type of smoke has not died out. Recently I've had Irish cigars, made in Ireland (Ah, the tobacco plantations of Tipperary, eh?) but am now smoking old cigars, bought in auction from some deceased Empire builder's estate, which are boldly labelled "Imperials. The Best Cigars in the World. Made in Burma"! Some slight misdescription! I think there is some tobacco in there, but the taste is hiding it!

My late father grew his own nicotiana plants, threaded the leaves on wire and hung them in the greenhouse to dry out. As they turned brown they looked similar to kippers being smoked. He bought some tragacanth gum and perfected the art of rolling decent coronas, albeit a little wet. To dry them out he put them on a baking tray in a low even with the door slightly...

Not going to go there!

Tyres - kindly supplied by the Metropolitan Police.
Nothing I could possibly admit to without my solicitor being present
French Cigarettes. My Dad would say "Horse sh1t rolled in tram tickets"
cupid .... a fan of 'only fools'
Leaves rolled in newspaper (no, not Marlboro Lights!). For some strange reason, my sister I and thought we would experiment. One puff and we both nearly died.
Your dad was right Jeza.
Had some Gauloise tobacco once, that was pretty disgusting, but that pales in insignificance when compared to Boar's Head tobacco, which was like half a packet of Old Holburn every drag.
As for illegal stuff, I'm saying nothing! ;-)
I tried Disque Bleu and Gitanes = horrible cigarettes
My Geography teacher was an advocate of banana skins and bay leaves....not together though, that would be weird!
Kippers

He bought some tragacanth gum and perfected the art of rolling decent coronas, albeit a little wet. To dry them out he put them on a baking tray in a low even with the door slightly ajar. Magic. They turned out like bent bananas and you had to light them near your ear.

In time the cigars straightened out but they were buggers to keep alight without suffering from collapsed lungs. We ended up passing a knitting needle through them to help them draw.

His pal, who worked for a chemical drug manufacturer, suggested he add a little saltpeter in the rolling process...

He did, we both smoked them.

Don't ever say ttfn hasn't got the spherical objects ;)

LOL @ mrs overall trying to look all sophisticated with her French fags and choking while smoking them, gawd they were bloody horrible.
