I have rather stupidly offered to provide a wedding buffet for my sister in law. Now a normal buffet I can do, however tonight I have been informed that there are people attending who will need halal food.

Please help, am clueless now.....(and am considering faking my own death).

Is Barmaid allowed to drink whilst preparing, Boxy? Otherwise I think it'll never happen.

Would this help?

Choose and make from this-or use it as a guide.
don't get prawns, prawns not permitted by strict Halal rules (as they are scavengers)

Most of what's not allowed is listed in Leviticus (including rock badgers, whatever they might be)
>>>including rock badgers, whatever they might be

Ask the Archbishop of Canterbury, Boxtops ;-)

I'm not bloody serving badgers For Funks Sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am now concerned that I might not be able to get shedded as I cook :(

However a small price to pay.

I shall be devising two menus over the weekend and I shall post for your criticism before I present to the very exacting bride!!!!!!
Chris, thank you for that - I have a big smile on my face (I do like this new Archibishop, he seems a good sort of guy!)
Sara - apologies - I'm not feeling well :-(

concentration span the size of a flea (or rock badger)
Forgiven ;0)
please make sure one menu features rock badgers
//A recent scientific study found that the Rock Hyrax, known for its unusual call, is one of the most sophisticated communicators in the animal kingdom.//

I now have an image of a food critic rock badger skyping a review of bm's buffet to its mates..
This thread has really tickled me - especially the rock badgers!! In all seriousness though - can't wait to see the menus you put together .... I would definiately play it safe and go veggie ..... loads of tasy vegetarian delights can be created for a buffet x

Are you willing to travel to leicester, as Peterborough is 5 miles away,
If you are then I can assure you that you will host the best wedding buffet
Ever, if interested let me know an I shall point you in the right direction x
Sahida, if you can condense the mileage between Peterborough and Leicester from 40miles down to 5miles then well done you.

Some fantastic ideas there. Sloopy - one of those menus looks like precisely the thing I need.

Sahida - thank you for your kind offer, but MOST of the prep is going to have to be done in Cardiff.
wot, the one with the sandwiches?? ;)

tell me you're not doing this single handed woman...

Yes and yes......

(The bride has said sarnies and nothing too "posh", but I am sure I can come up with something slightly better for her......)
Booker cash & carry sell halal chicken breasts. Big bag is £20 you get about 18-20 breasts, Small tray is £10 about 9-11 breasts. It has got the Arabic writing on the front. Apparently the writing says 'halal'
fair do's lass!

what are the on site facilities like? have you got to make it all up before hand and ship it there or can you do some of the prep at the venue?
