Coeliac

Is coeliac disease a life long ilness or can one get over it? biopsy was taken at the same time as camera was down throat into small intestine showing that the furry things, called villi or something similar had all collapsed. weight loss was frightening and tiredness and lethargy was also a major factor.
the biopsy confirmed coeliac. after a couple of years on gluten free diet all seemed normal, so gluten was introduced into the diet again, and symptoms not too bad so has been continued ever since. but, everything we read says it is for life, you do not get over it. is this correct? and is there a test other than a camera down the throat?

You'll often get annoyed by various attention seeking people saying how better they feel by having a gluten-free diet.
If they actually had Coeliac Disease then they really would know that's it not a lifestyle choice, but a medical necessity to have a gluten free diet.

I fully agree, if people really knew what coeliac disease was like they wouldn't think its just a minor ailment and that new diet would somehow make them feel better. I am at a loss to know the answer to this. could the biopsy have been wrong? The person concerned is much older now, but has not really put on weight with age, has always been acting like she was going through the change of life, irritable and tired. I think a suggestion of a blood test would be in order.
What a terrible thought. someone may have suffered for many years because of a gluten problem.
Thanks for the help.
