I HATE washing lettuce and cabbage - has anyone got a secret way of doing this? I can't stand fishing around in the water for the little bits of shredded leaf.

Yes, I know you can buy it ready washed, and I did buy it once, in a moment of extravagance, but I wouldn't say it was the cleanest cabbage I've ever seen.

How do you do it?

Hi Crisgal   Put your greens cabbage or whatever in a bowl or saucepan of water swish it around then either leave it for a bit or strain it straight  into a colander no fishing around!!!!!!!!!!!!!
crisgal, wash cabbage leaves while they are whole dont chop first and wash after, wash first (two minutes) then chop.
You can buy salad spinners where you place the leaves in a colander type bit, wash under the tap, then put the lid on and turn the handle to spin the water off.

I agree with don1. I wash my leaves before chopping them.

And I do it the way my mum used to - fill the washing up bowl with cold water and swill the leaves around in it.
