Steroid Injections
7 Answers
I've had a few over the years, mainly general in the bum ones for general inflammatory help for rheumatoid arthritis.
I had them in both hips some weeks ago as I have bursitis in both which was really painful and causing a lot of discomfort.
I've just been put on methotrexate injections and have to go back to rheumatology in a few weeks and they are going to see about injecting my shoulders (have subacromial impingement in both and they are keeping me away from the orthopaedic surgeons until my arthritis is under better control).
I also have bursitis and odema in one foot (confirmed by MRI) and now similar problems in my other foot and it doesn't seem to be shifting - orthotics from podiatry haven't helped much. Steroid injections have been mentioned for that too.
Can you have multiple injections in different sites (bearing in mind it's both hips, both shoulders and both feet) close together or is there a limit on them? They really helped my hips though are wearing off and I'm getting a lot of pain again. My nurse said they can inject them again though I have been wondering if I may have to choose which bits to inject when so I can have a think over before seeing rhumo again as to priority.
If anyone has any idea as to limits and such it would be much appreciated.

Yes......this will depend upon the joint disorder that is to be treated and also the thoughts of the rheumatologist who is managing your case.
As a rough guide.......it is normal practice to inject each site..bursa or into the joint every three months if that be necessary.

Thanks Sqad (it's Jenna btw post username change).
It's subacromial impingement in my shoulders, not sure what's causing it but could probably bet on bursitis (if that can cause it) seeing as they are inflamed in my hips and feet.
Good to know I might not have to choose, my rhumo nurse said my hips can be done 3 monthly.
