We have been given two dozen eggs from a friend. I didn't want to offend her by asking, but are all hens vaccinated against salmonella?
(A few years ago a bout of salmonella nearly killed me and I am a bit paranoid)

I don't know about the vaccination but if they were hard boiled they should be OK.
I think.
If friend eats them too...assume it's safe....
No not all hens are vaccinated as there is no legal requirement to so but you will be fine I'm sure.

Ratter - you have just decided me - I am not going to touch them!
You could paint them and pretend they were symmetrical pebbles

lol
Mrs O. Eat the eggs, they are probably far healthier and tastier than the eggs you buy in the supermarket.
I'd eat them..!!!

Ratter, I told you I was paranoid!
Ours are vaccinated but we know many people who don't vaccinate with no problems, the risks are miniscule. Enjoy them.
I'm easily put off eggs and couldn't eat them either. Too real for me and besides, you don't know how old they are or how they've been stored.

But then I am not a great egg eater and use less than 6 eggs a month.

Wash them and hard boil them or use them for cooking rather than having them soft perhaps.
Know where you're coming from, mrs o. I've become maniacally pernickity since I had a dose of Salmonella years ago.
That explains a lot of things, Svejk. Mrs o we get our eggs from a little cottage down the road. I have never thought to ask about the chickens being vaccinated.
Use them to make a cake, salmonella bacteria are very sensitive to high temperatures and wouldn't survive cooking and will all be killed under cake baking conditions.
If Salmonella has affected you in the past I can't blame you for being wary or paranoid. I would just ask.
I eat local farm eggs from unvaccinated hens and also drink raw milk, I've never caught anything nasty. My Mother had salmonella once when she was pregnant, caught from a hotel, and she says without doubt it was the most horrific thing imaginable and was in hospital for ages with it, so I can understand you being careful but I'm sure in this case you'll be fine, the chances of catching salmonalla like this are very very small.
no, they're not - so don't eat them raw - eg licking the spoon from cake mixture or don't eat homemade mayo, fry/ boil till yolk is firm
