I noticed a conversation about kale in another thread, which reminded me to ask whether there's a shortage this year or whe I can buy it?

sainsbury's haven't sold it this year, nor the local veg market stalls. When i asked they either didn't know why they didn't have it or told me it was out of season. But i haven't been able to buy it for ages. Having kale withdrawals now!

I've been buying it in Tesco no problem.
Actually now I'm thinking about it, the last time I needed it I had to make do with spinach instead.
oh dear - ive just thrown away some that came in my veg box
You could have made kale crisps Bednobs, they're supposed to be lovely.

Awww I'll definitely have a kale search this weekend now.
I don't like the ready prepared kale very much, you still have to go through it and take the stalks out. I'd rather do it myself but its harder to find the uncut stuff now.
Sainsbury's had it here this afternoon.....
Uncut DT?
If you're around Beccles way over the weekend Maydup the famers market near Ellough airfield have it .I bought some the other week .Lovely and fresh .
Better than the prepacked supermarket stuff.

Ideally I'd love a bunch of fresh uncut kale, but no-ones selling it in any form. I will have to grow it myself for next year....off to search for plants or seeds instead now :)

Aww thanks Shaney, i might just take a ride out there.
It`s too early for the best kale (which is UK grown). That season is later in the summer. The stuff you buy know would be imported. Maybe the foreign growers have had their crops affected by the weather or other factors.
It's a smashing market Maydup.We go regularly .

Well worth a visit .
Uncut, but this is Cornwall and, in theory, we are warmer and first grown often in the UK - like asparagus, for example....and more and more poly-tunnels being used every year.

So maybe I'm simply too early?
June to February but due to the late spring probably late June, early July before it is readily available in the shops
