good afternoon everyone
got to gatwick yesterday tea time, and checked in to the premier inn for the night
got up at 0200hrs this morning to get to the north terminal and check in for our flight out here

we landed at around 1120 local time (that would have ben 0920 back there), and the moment we stepped off the airplane (boeing 757-300) the heat was very intense
after an alarmingly swift taxi journey to the hotel (filoxenia, in tsilivi) the traffic out here is like 'wacky races' .. we booked in and unpacked in our room, just in time for lunch - and i have to say the food and the hotel certainly live up to the good reviews on 'trip advisor' .... all inclusive really is the way to go

the afternoon has been spent relaxing in the sun, broken up by the occasional dip in the pool to cool down

i was peasantly surprised to find a free internet terminal in the lobby, so i thought i would come on and say hello

that's it for now .. we have two full weeks ahead of us, and we do not have a specific schedule in mind .. we will just decide what to do or where to go on each day as we wake up

i think i shall stay logged on here until some child starts hovering - eager to start playing games, and see if any of you have any questions or envious comments to make

would you believe it ... there was just a minor earthquake tremor, and it threw everything off - it has just taken ten minutes to get back on the net

however - yes, thank you. the holiday is off to a good start (apart from the fact that i have just broken one of my pairs of sunglasses)

there is an orchard out the back, and it is full of crickets (or cicadas) all chirping away like demented carpenters with sandpaper

it is quite loud - and if it continues into the night, then sleep could be a problem

I'm glad you're having a lovely time. I'm really jealous though, I'd love to be relaxing by the pool and having a swim. I've been to Skiathos and Corfu.

The only thing I'm not keen on in Zante is there blinkin driving! 'What side do they drive on?', I've been asked. 'ANY' is usually my answer!

Have a few Ouzo's, drink many Mythos.

Head towards Alykanas and go on Trainiki. A glorified Pissfest, but entertains all. The train (like the ones you find on Bournemouth beach) will take you up the mountains, visit a few museums and ply you with free wine.

I'd advise not to take the touristy turtle tours, they can become a little cramped, but to hire your own boat out, which will cost either the same or less. You can venture around the island for the day, anchor down and swim towards a bar. Private boats are also a great opportunity to get rid of your white bits :)

We've just come back from Zakynthos and had a great time . Book a cruise around the island its well worth it -three swim stops on the way around and really interesting scenery but take a picnic cos the snack bar on board is diabolical. Have fun
