Hard Peaches

Just bought a punnet of peaches from Tesco and they're a bit on the hard side, if I put them in the sun d'ya reckon they ripen up a bit?

I wouldnt put them in the sun, i would just leave them on the worktop in a dish to slowly ripen.

If you read the little label on the punnet it will probably say just keep them in the kitchen (not in fridge) and they will ripen

I've just done the same with 6 hard plums, so left them for one or two days and now their firm but not hard. They were yummy rocky.

Err... peaches won't continue to ripen once picked (true with both Clingstone and Freestone varieties). They will become softer, but not ripen. If they were unripe when picked, they'll remain that way...

If you want some of them quicker, place in a brown paper bag with a banana - ripens quicker.

(After thought) Plums, on the other hand, do continue to ripen after being picked...

I'm only ever awkward within the few minutes after I've stubbed my toe... not graceful, mind you, but not awkward either... (Never could do the pirouette... does that classify me as awkward?)

Go to a greengrocers for your fruit and veg where they will be ripe . All supermarkets fruit and veg are only there because they have a long shelf life . The flavour, ripeness and taste are only secondry to long shelf life in supermarkets
