Is Sauerkraut Really Good For Digestion?

I heard that it is, are there any other foods that help with digestion and transit as i have a few eating competitions coming up and want my digestive system to be in lightning mode if you know what i mean ;)

most foods that have been "fermented" are said to aid digestion. Sauerkraut is cabbage that has been fermented. Sour dough breads, these have a long fermentation process, all good for the gut. Japanese cuisine is well known for it's fermented foods. All this fermentation takes the hard work out of the digestive system. You could say they're pre digested.
