I was at the supermarket and seen a large turkey leg (650grams) for £1.65 and this seems like a great and cost effective piece of meat. When you cook a turkey leg can you have it down to the same consistency of a chicken leg and eat it off the bone not that i would as it's as big as a leg of lamb but i mean is it soft and as juicy as a chicken leg? How much of it is meat as it has bone and tendons in it and how would you cook it, for how long and with what?

I've cooked them in my slow cooker. Not too much liquid...maybe 6-8 hours. Was very, very moist...with a LOT of meat.
....from what I remember, there's not as much meat as you might think - because there's a lot of bone and tendons.
I got several meals from mine...but I don't know what the weight was.
put in a large pan -you may need to chop in half or at least the end bony bit - add carrots onions or leeks, celery and some dried broth mix and simmer for a couple of hours. Take the turkey leg out and strip meat from the bone and put back in the pan. Mix 150 grms self-raising flour with 50 grms dried suet, add one teaspoon of salt and mix to dough with cold water. Add spoonful's to the broth mix and put lid on -after 25 mins you will have a pan full of turkey broth and dumplings.
I made beautiful vegetable soup with a whole chicken last week - my neighbour got a pot and said it was gorgeous. Unfortunately I did not put it into fridge that night so it went OFF - I went to so much trouble that morning. It'll take me a while before I do it again.

Again re the turkey leg - take care there are a lot of bones and very fine ones too. Conne

Thanks guys. They also do whole turkey thigh which might be a better bet. Does turkey thigh have a lot of bones and tendons in it too?
Henrietta the thigh has just one bone through the middle and is very nice to either roast whole ( wrapped in bacon) or cut off the bone for curries. The bone is easily taken out and then the thigh can be stuffed and roasted.
If you used a whole chicken to make soup, wouldn't it be chicken soup?
yes craft chicken with vegetables - beaut. Chicken just gives out lovely flavour - of course I stripped the skin off so there would be no fat.
...and if you use a half of pieces of chicken to make soup wouldn't it still be chicken soup? :)
Society you would die for my soup not the like of it round Belfast LOL
Would like to know about that thigh - would Sainsburys have that?
Tesco sell packs of chopped turkey thigh meat, no skin or bone, 3 quid for 500g, makes a superb stew in the oven or slow cooker or on the hob. I tried the turkey leg and found they weren't good value as too much bone and sinew.
