Wine For The Weekend
6 Answers
I can't remember the last time I recommended some wine from Sainsburys - they don't email me their offers and I rarely go in the stores.
It seems a bit unfair to ignore them - they were a major influence in demonstrating to the young dave that there was something beyond Hirondelle, Blue Nun and Moroccan Rotgut Red.
So a quick few from their current offers that I know & like :
Brown Brothers Tarrango - an excellent light red, lots of fruity flavours and great with cheese and biscuits - currently reduced from £7.99 to £5.99
Porcupine Ridge Cab Sauv - One of my favourite quaffing reds - great with BBQs (ahem) and Roast Sunday Lunch - lots of nice, oaky tannins, but nothing to upset more delicate palates. Currently £5.32 from £7.99 - a bargain.
Sainsburys TTD Barbaresco - overpriced at the nominal £9.99 but decent value at the current offer of£7.49. Very nice Italian red, with characteristic smoky flavour. Great with meat based pasta dishes.
Sainsburys TTD Verdicchio Classico - I had a bottle of this the other day. Absolutely classic 'green' flavours, bright and bracing - excellent as an aperitif with olives and nibbles. A bargain at £5.61 (from £7.49)
Sainsbury's TTD Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG - low alcohol (5%) pink fizz. Something I'd normally avoid like the plague - but I was given a glass the other day & it was actually very nice. Slightly 'off dry' and very 'pink and flowery' - a summer drink to brighten a winter afternoon. Quite a steal at £4.71 (from £6.29).
