Mayonnaise Use By Date..

Going to have fish, chips and mushy peas soon and just noticed my Mayonnaise jar says use before Dec 13th, but one month after being opened, which I think was 5 months ago.

Do you think its OK?

If kept in fridge it is probably ok but it depends how you feel about it.

I`d chuck it. 5 months is a bit long.

Mayonnaise lasts a lot longer than the labelling suggests. The vinegar in it is a very good preservative

Taste it - if it's OK then have some more. If it tastes off or slightly fizzy - discard it.

I've a jar in the fridge that DD uses on occasional visits - it must be several months after the use by date. Not come to grief yet.

I've used mayonnaise six months after opening to no ill effect. If it tastes all right and hasn't got whiskers then go for it.

We've been eating some with a use-by date of Oct 2012, with no ill effects.
