I don't buy bread and wonder if anyone has a suggestion for a substitute when the recipe calls for breadcrumbs? This is in the sense of binding a wet savoury mixture into a manageable consistency.

Depends on what the wet mixture is and what it is for!

Cous cous/polenta could do the job or you buy a bread roll and blitz that up.....what is the recipe?

Its a chick pea burger recipe with a few nuts, onion, courgette, and an egg. Need to bind it together and ideally would like to avoid the bread. I could go out and buy a bread roll, but that would involve planning ahead when I have all the other ingredients!
How about trying porridge oats?
Would a grated potato work, I wonder?
If you have any cornflakes blitz them in a food processor.
In that case I'd up the chick peas and nuts to balance the wet ingredients. Or use a little soaked cous cous.
I'd use porridge oats also...I use them in meatballs and meatloaf.
Blitz some cream crackers in the blender.

Thanks all,

Of course - porridge oats. I'll give them a go and only need a few.
Why not buy a small loaf of bread, blitz it into breadcrumbs and stash the bag in the freezer to use as and when?
Or a packet of Panko, excellent crumbs.
why not use coarse oatmeal.
