One basic principal underlies the decaffeination processusing a solvent to dissolve the caffeine and then removing the solvent from the tea. The caffeine is separated from the solvent and the solvent is purified and reused. Three different solvents are currently available to decaffeinate tea:
Methylene chloride
Ethyl acetate
Super critical carbon dioxide

I can tell u how Nescafe decaf their coffee:

1. Unroasted green coffee beans are soaked in pure hot water (makes them open up and easier to get caffine out)

2. Add more pure water and pass through beans.

3. Filter the water through charcoal to remove caffine.

4. Decaffinated water then added back to coffee beans to be re-absorbed.

5. Beans are dried before roasting and grinding.

Got that from Nescafe pick me ups mag.
