I'd love to be politically correct, and say its a matter of personal choice.

But if any of my pals asked me what I thought, I'd have to say...

It's sick, gross, weird, revolting, perverted, etc.

A five year old should be chowing down on McDonald's Happy Meals and banana milk shakes ... not breast feeding.

To say nothing of the five years of punishment for your boobs.

Completely unnecessary. You need to breastfeed for six months for the child to have the full lifelong benefit and they are on a normal diet by about one, when they can also go onto cow's milk. I did feed all mine for 12-18 months each, but it gets to a point where it doesn't feel right any more.

Not being a daytime TV viewer, I cannot comment on this particular Mum. But in general if a mother wants to continue feeding it should be a private issue within the family and not on the screen.


McDonalds happy meals only occasionally though. :-)

I breastfed my son until he was 2 years old, that was plenty long enough in my opinion. I would have stopped earlier but he wasn't on solid food and wouldn't drink from cups or beakers any sooner.

I wouldn't be comfortable that a child was still having a bottle at five, but getting milk on tap at that age is more about the Mothers inability to give it up than the child IMHO.

I have a friend who announced that she had breastfed her daughter until she was 5 years old. This, after I had sort of queried another friend breastfeeding until her daughter was 18 months old. Other female friends had varied opinions from weird to very weird. Being a chap I have no opinions in this subject as it is all a mystery to me but 5 years! ah I do have an opinion after all ...

As much as I hate to judge a mother who is just doing what she thinks is best for her child, I find it a bit weird.
