Had this tonight https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/drinks/wine-cellar/red-wine/red-wine-product-detail-page/ps/p/baron-amarillo-rioja-reserva/

Slight oak flavours (from 3 years in oak) along with black cherry and blackberry flavours (bottle says blackcurrant but I tasted blackberry) Not bad at all and very good for the price. I don`t tend to stock up the wine rack but if I did, I would definitely buy a few of these.

It will be in an hour and a half though.
Wine is for mmmmmmmm. Real connoisseurs drink........... not a clue. I drink either tea or Bacardi.
Pah!
When you're in Aldi - try a bottle of this :

https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/drinks/wine-cellar/the-exquisite-collection/the-exquisite-collection-product-detail-page/ps/p/rias-baixas-albarino/

It's a good price for a wine you don't see all that often in the UK - it's lovely with cheese and/or snacky nibbles.

I think the description sells it a bit short - makes it sound very lightweight, when in fact it's got a good solid mouthful of flavour - and yes, a tiny hint of an apple aftertaste.
Do they mind you drinking it in-store Dave?

Thanks SD. I`ll try that sometime. I`m not at all familiar with Spanish whites.
I have a penknife and a straw, Zacs - it's my little secret ...
Question Author
I forgot I am a bit familiar with Spanish whites - Cava. And Aldi have the best basic Cava of all the supermarkets IMO
a penknife...for a screw top ?
Dave, if you can source Eidoselas Albariño, do try it! I tried it up in the Lakes and it was fantastic!! x
.

Aldi have some decent wines - and actually so do Lidl
and you have learnt lesson one in wine tasting

you can get a bottle of decent spanith wine for under a tenner

which is kinda useful to know ....

Something I have noticed lately is that wines are better value at the local corner shop than in the supermarket. I saw Casillero del Diablo Carmenere at the local shop for 2 for £9.99 (full price £5.99). It`s about £8 in Sainsburys. Not only that but the local corner shops tend to keep their white wines in a chiller cabinet which the big supermarkets don`t do.
