Fish - Love Or Loathe?

Inspired by another thread I am interested to know why so many people dislike fish and seafood?

Many people I know are deterred by a fear or bones, some by the smell others are scared of preparing/cooking it.

I would love to eat more fish but getting access to fresh fish is a considerable effort as I don't have a local fishmonger or touring fish van.

So, do you opt for fish or fowl?

Hence my reticence Ummmm. It is a shame that the range of frozen fish isn't that extensive.

I'd much rather be able to buy fish off day boats but it just isn't possible where I live. Getting out to the coast in England and Scotland in search of fish always brings a smile to my face.
"I will admit to loving cod in parsley sauce with tomato ketchup. I know this is wrong, so so wrong but hey...... ;)"

Eew, noooooooo
Love any fish and seafood and luckily I live in a place where it's fresh and easy to come by .

Like all Fish, especially the (very) fresh Pike that we used to get in Norfolk when we lived in Wroxham.
Hi Eccles, I suppose I lack confidence how to cook fish. I've made home made battered fish, that was really nice. I like smoked haddock/cod, I like fishcakes. I can honestly say I've never tried most of the fish mentioned here. I would love to
make a fish dish with some real 'taste'to it.

It depends on the fish and if it is whole, steaks, fillets etc Ummm.

Most often I'll flash it in a frying pan, sometime en papillotte, stewed/curried, BBQd, salt crust and baked......anything but grilled.

I have an irrational loathing of domestic grills as they are rarely hot enough to cook without drying out whatever is underneath. I admit to whacking stuff under a preheated grill to glaze/finish off but think that actually cooking many fish or steaks is a waste of good food.
I love fish and seafood and have never had an issue with bones or understood what the fuss is about concerning fish bones.
What is pike like?
Pike?
Don't go there :(

Like a Gamy (stronger) flavoured Plaice
Never seen it for sale before.
Question Author
Pike is certainly for the hardcore fish eaters!

Pretty strong in flavour and needs careful preparation as it is bony.
Pike is made up of bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, bones, a bit of meat and some more bones.
Like it but it must be fresh from fishmonger no frozen stuff.
I love fish. All kinds. Tuna, trout, salmon, swordfish, sea bass, haddock. Not too keen on cod and plaice, there isn't much taste in either of them. Fish is easy to cook (easier than meat) and is very good for you. Yum
"What is pike like" - a *** to land and disgorge. Trout are SO much easier.......

Lets just say it wasn't for sale you had to know the right people

I've just had to take 600mg of Ibruprofen in the hope I make a swift recovery from the 'turn' I've just taken having read Barmaid's Cod parsley sauce/ketchup confession.
As I kid I equated fish with near tasteless (and what taste it had wasn't particularly pleasant) white fish in batter or breadcrumbs, which if they weren't too greasy, which was offputting in itself, was smiply not appetising; and so I declared I disliked fish. Tinned salmon being an exception, I really liked that.

But on reaching an age when I could go try things for myself I found there were many oily flavoursome fish well worth having. In fact I have two in my fridge as I write, one earmarked for dinner tonight, the other is going to try to stay fresh for tomorrow.

But I don't think it should be a contest between fish or fowl or any other sort of meat. Both fish and fowl are nice. And variety is the spice of life, or so I'm told.

Tinned salmon was a Sunday tea time treat. It was quite a shock when I had the real thing for the first time!

I'm starting to fancy some smoked mackerel pâté with a good kick of horseradish on toasted sour dough.
