The only frozen veg I buy is petit pois. IMO all the rest is waterlogged no matter how short a time you cook it for.
For over 30 years I have been freezing my own. Buy when at it's cheapest usually in the summer to eat when it's at it's most expensive.

My question is, the only cabbage I like is primo but as yet have had no success in freezing it so it doesn't come out water logged. I have been to many websites and followed the instructions yet it is always soggy. Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe? Thanks for reading.

Just to bump this up, Jeza. I don't grow or freeze any vegetables. All mine come from Sainsbury's. I prefer to grow flowers and shrubs. We have a lovely market every Thursday and Satyrday and I buy fresh veg from there.

Tilly I do see that, but if you know how to do it properly you would never know the difference.

Why don't you just concentrate on growing and freezing the stuff you have success with and buy frozen cabbage?
Jeza I can't freeze anything very sucessfully. MrAsk's friend brings me green beans, bobby beans all blo88dy beans and I have a freezer nearly full of them, but I'll only use half because they are soggy when I cook them. Cabbage is a no go that is limp too. I think cabbage only needs to be cooked in boiling water for about 10 mins not tried it lately,

Sherr. The only frozen cabbage I have seen is from Asda. It is a mix of several variety's and is soggy.

AYG. Buy a good book. I bought one over 30 years ago, it has saved me £'s and the end product is as good as fresh and still has all the goodness in it.

I freeze runner beans @ 6inch length or less. Fresh shop ones are too long for me. I blanch, pat dry & freeze in half pound lots. To use, I chuck frozen into boil (or nuke) and serve slathered in butter and ground pepper.

Scriven effing bobby beans are the smaller smooth variety of bean, there are butter beans large and knobbly, green beans flat and stringy. Lesson over.

For Savoy Cabbage, I shred quite fine and either plunge into boiling water for a minute or steam for similar - then straight into ice cold water, let dry. Spread on a sheet and freeze then bag up.

Presume that method should work for Primo too.

I love dwarf french beans, problem is they usually come from Kenya.

Does it come out okay Mamya, as in not overcooked and soggy. I dislike savoy but love primo.
Yes scrivens aka french beans, I like them too jeza. I bought a pack from Asda the day Mr Ask came home an hour later with a carrier bag full of the home grown ones!
That's a shame Jeza- works for me, shouldn't be soggy if goo and dry when it goes in the freezer - maybe Primo has a higher water content.

Will give it a go mamya.
Living alone, I would waste lots if I didn't freeze stuff - hope you achieve the result you want.
