Click http:// www.del iaonlin e.com/r ecipes/ cuisine /europe an/engl ish/sof t-boile d-eggs. html for Delia Smith's method. Works for me. Key point...ensure the eggs are at room temperature before you start; do not, for example, put them in the water straight from the fridge but get them out the night before.

One egg at room temp.
Place in a small pan (like a milk pan)
Cover with cold water but just enough so the egg is not completely submerged.
Place on a high heat and as soon as the water boils time it for 3 mins exactly. Remove from pan and open immediately. This is important as otherwise the egg will continue to cook under its own steam, thus giving you a hard yolk.

I agree with Obiter, heat the water from cold and then 3 minutes when boiling. Then under the cold tap for 10conds or so, to stop the cooking process, then eat with homemade wholemeal toast. Had a look at the timer recommended by 2sp and bought one to try. Well it was only £1 inc postage so will give it a try.
