This may sound stupid but here goes......

We bought a Fray Bentos pudding but when we got home we saw that it was for a microwave. As we do not have a microwave would it be ok to remove the lid, cover the top with foil and simmer it in a saucepan of water ?

Should be OK hardy.
I assume the container it is in would be plastic (microwaveable) so I suggest it would not be to good in boiling water.
Why not remove contents from container and steam it?
just open the lid and pop it in the oven, will take a little longer but the same result
sorry, didn't consider it would be plastic!
If its suitable for the microwave then it will probably melt if you put it in the oven but should be ok in a steamer. I know where I'd put it......in the bin
Does it not give alternatives on container?

Thanks for your replies - I think you may be right Retrochic and bin it !!
Id give it to someone who HAS got a microwave. Or donate it to your local charity stall.
