Why would you want to invent or eat a pie in a can? Who eats these things?

Fray Bentos was the original source of corned beef. It is a port in Uruguay and originally became famous for the beef canning plant there. The beef was exported as 'Fray Bentos Corn Beef' and corn beef became known as' Fray Bentos' rather like a vacuum cleaner being known as a 'Hoover'.
Fray Bentos is now a trade name owned by Princes Foods and has nothing to do with the port in Uruguay.

Then that would be tehrans world famous "Rial shack" where you can get a fray bentos pie, a 5 pack of generic washing liquid and a missile launcher for 100 rials!

How do you open one or is it a slaughter for your fingers like those chainsaw massacre corned beef ring pulls?
I eat them but I find them very difficult to open

Do they not come with a peeling strip? Maybe they should sell them with a small sledgehammer
Bentos Pies are not known as being in cans, only round flat tins, and are so easy to just pull the lid of with a little tug!
Fray bentos are made by Baxters

MMm baxters a hug in a mug. Don't they make that lovely lobster bisque?

Now lobster pie in a can, there's an idea!
I love Fray Bentos pies. There's not much meat in 'em but the gravy is very tasty. Handy to have in the cupboard for when you can't be bothered to cook.
I like the pastry :)
The pastry's great too. :o)
I love Fray Bentos pies, rarely buy them now but really enjoy them when I do, just like Bird's Eye Chicken Pies.
I enjoy these pies as well, useful for an emergency. The only problem found is it has to be a major emergency as they are tin-opener proof, I have three openers of different designs and it requires at least two of them working together. I swear I will lose a finger one day before the tin is opened.
There used to be bits of steak and kidney in them. Last time I ate one it seemed all pastry and gravy.
I didn't realise that Baxters the soup people have taken over the brand.
The steak and kidney pie has 12% beef and 9.5% kidney - that's not a per centage of the filling but the whole pie.
hc, have you done those mince pies yet?
There was no meat or gravy in the last mince pies I bought. ;-)
the picture on that website bears no relation to any Fray Bentos product I've ever seen

hc's signed up for making 200 artisan festive creations sandy - as the sprouts are on and Chris Rea's set off, time to crack on with 'em
