Oh BOO, we had to have Mellings? (from Bolton) bread - 'don't come back with any of that Warburtons rubbish' was the threatening message!
Apparently there's a long-standing feud on Bury market about which is the "original" black pudding. Warby's bread seems fairly nationwide now, I recall having to drive eldest daughter down to the bakery at 4.30 on Saturday morning to clean the mixers, luckily she didn't endure long in that job.
Craister is in Norfolk. How is that Northern?
Craster NOT Craister Zacs - on the Northumbria coast near Alnwick
Pease pudding and ham sarnie ..........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Mellings is going back some years, they used to be near the bus terminus in Farnworth I think.
I would say most of them are North east foods, Clarion.
Yes I'm afraid I am going back a long way - about 55 years!! LOL
I've heard of pease pudding, probably from a nursery rhyme or something, and I've had saveloy. Don't know what the "dip" bit is though.
Saveloy dip sounds vile, does anyone know what it is?

I went for the Kippers too.

My brother worked for Mellings as a driver for a while.
I cannot be far enough north because I would go for fish and chips.
As a born and bred Yorkshireman now in NW... I haven't heard of most either so put 'Kippers' have to agree with Dusty though. Harry Ramsdens near Leeds do great 'Great Fish 'n' chips.
We did have a Harry Ramsden here in Edinburgh, but it closed. The people here are more discerning and did not take to frozen cod, preferring fresh haddock.

Surprised at the omission of that Glasgow delicacy sold in the chip shops...Fried Mars Bars.
I think soph means "Northern England" hence the haggis etc omission.

B00, we can get Warburtons bread down here :-)
Retrochic ......'There seem to be a lot of Greggs Pasty shops in the North -that should be on the list'

I think you'll find there's a lot of Greggs shops in the South, East and West too
