I know everybody has to find the balance of circumstances between money, time and fresh food's availablity, and there's a limit to most peoples' choices.

And ready made cakes with a shelf life of weeks and weeks? Magic? I try as far as possible to cook most things from scratch but it isn't always possible. I don't worry about it as we do have a fairly well balanced diet
