Rightly or wrongly, I decided not to buy the kids any Easter eggs this year because they are such an expensive way to buy chocolate. Instead I took them to Asda and gave them £40 to spend on chocolate or sweets. They showed such restraint! The only one who spent his full share of the money was the eldest. (I might get them one small, surprise egg though - seems a bit mean not to get at least one traditional egg.)

I've never bought my kids an egg. I do have a large family though so they didn't go without.
Question Author
My dad sends them money but there isn't anyone else who buys for them.
While I agree that Easter eggs are a ridiculously expensive way to buy chocolate (and I applaud your idea of substituting more affordable sweets) I do note that Easter eggs are still (relatively) far cheaper than they used to be. Back in the 1980s it might have cost me £3 to buy a fairly basic Easter egg for someone but they're still that price now, 30 years later!

BTW, I hope that your brood are all back to full health, Sherrardk, especially No.1 boy. (I was plagued with ear problems as a child and I know how painful and debilitating they can be).

Boy #1 is back to the hospital tomorrow to get his ear seen to so hopefully they will get it sorted without making it worse - still waiting for a call back from the 'patient experience team'.
When did Easter become such a massive event commercially, it's rivalling Christmas as a potential earner for the supermarkets, crates of booze stacked up in the doorways. There used to be just eggs and hotcross buns!
As we have 15 great grandchildren & I have just retired I wasn't going to buy eggs this year; however as Tesco were doing 2 for £1.50 buy 2 get 2 free it seemed a bit tight not to
I suspect that if the 'patient experience team' end up on the wrong side of one of your complaints (I'm thinking 'Wookey Hole' here!) they'll need to become the 'extremely patient experience team' ;-)
My dad always bought me better Easter eggs than he got the kids.
I'm buying lunch for my lot and they have one small egg each from their Mum
Question Author
Fair do's, Wookey Hole really annoyed me. I shall ring the 'patient experience team' tomorrow (after boy #1 is (hopefully) sorted out).
My Dad always got me a black magic egg ummmm....and I hate dark chocolate...I'm just glad he's stopped now :o)
40 quid???
Eggs are about a fiver. Any more is excess IMO.
Question Author
FrogNog, I expect that children get about 4 or 5 eggs from parents and family. My kids only get eggs from us and as there are five of them I thought £40 was about right (£50 seemed just a bit too much).
The first Easter after he died was the first time I didn't get an egg. It made me really sad even though I never ate them anyway.
ummmm. I know what you mean I didn't eat mine either but it's still nice to be thought of. Have a good Easter and spoil your kids :o)
They're too old now :-)
You're never too old for an Easter Egg !
Honestly Sherrardk, I think that's too much.
If they get that for Easter, what one earth do they get for Christmas and such.
The money would surely be better spent putting it aside for them.
Why do they need eggs from made up relatives? They know you love them surely?
Mine are 34 and 35 but if I don't send eggs I'm in big trouble !
Question Author
They don't get eggs from made up relatives. They get what we choose to give them. I don't think £8 for Easter is excessive. They get birthday and Christmas presents (if we've got it they can have it). The rest of the year they get pocket money and if they want anything they buy it - no magazines or little treats, etc.
