Not A Smoker But.....
53 Answers
...as far as I know, it's not illegal to smoke in this country if you're over 18 years of age, yet legislation keeps being passed to curb smoking. I'm not advocating smoking, so don't think that I am. I find it odd that new laws keep coming along that are anti smoking, when very little is being done about something that costs this country well in excess of smoking, and that is alcohol. Town centre violence, domestic violence, absenteeism, medical conditions. All of these things cost this country at least ten times the cost of tobacco, so maybe it's a money thing. Big profits in alcohol. Stet.

Strange OP coming from you Clarion. Since it was you in early March enjoying your whiskey in Malta and being rather offensive and disrespectful subsequently.
I think it was Roy Hudd who claimed he had contracted lung cancer through passive smoking on the club circuit. I don't catch anything from those who enjoy a drink in the same presence as myself!!
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your sister. It is certainly not my business and please don't be offended if I ask was it her death that may have prompted this post ?

My mum died at the age of 58 from emphysema caused by smoking, my dad was a few years older when he died - his leg arteries were blocked due to smoking.
But I felt uneasy when the smoking law changed a couple of years back an smoking was banned in pubs. Surprisingly most people seem to obey the new laws.

Most people who drink are not alcoholics, don't get drunk and certainly don't expect breaks during working hours to knock a tot or two back. Alcohol does have health benefits if drunk in moderation.
Smokers are usually addicted, lighting up as soon as they get up and smoking throughout the day, every day. There are absolutely no health benefits to smoking and every cigarette has a negative impact on the smoker and those around them.
There really is no comparison between the two. And of course many smokers also drink alcohol.
