Because absolutely no-one has asked ... I'm back :)

La La Land Malbec - Australia

Possibly the most gluggable red I've drunk this year - brilliant value and a nice label too. Loads of nice fruity flavours, a tiny bit of tannin to give some steel and a lovely aftertaste.

Don't delay - buy some today.

Majestic £7.99

Albarino - Spain

I'm sure I've recommended this before - but it's the white wine of the summer for me. Crisp, fruity and brilliant with salads, fish, pasta etc.

Aldi £5.99

Zinfandel - USA

Nearly sold out - but I've got mine, so you can order now if you want. A serious bargain at just over £8 a bottle for Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel (I've paid well over a tenner in the past & thought it was well worth it). Loads of black fruitiness and plenty of oomph (14.5%) too - drink it with BBQ meat or keep for Winter Sunday Roasts.

Averys £8.33

My god wine is expensive in the UK. We buy from Mercadona a great Verdejo for 1.80€ and , when we want to splash out , a decent Suavignon Blanc at 2,85€. Lidl here also has a great Verdejo at about 2,50€

I know Samuraisan - I can't wait for my next trip to Portugal - great wines for absolute buttons. Crisp Vinho Verde and warm reds from Alentejo ... mmmm

But we have to make the best of what we have here ...
Interesting the Ozzie Malbec - my find on this front has been has been a Los Haroldos from Argentina, a Malbec, priced at 10.99.

On the whites, the M&S German (yes!) Pinot Grigio is excellent (£7.99)......real depth to this one.
I suppose Sunny. Someone was telling me they charge 6£ for a glass of wine in a pub nowadays in London ??
Yes, the high price of alcohol in the UK prevents binge-drinking and alcoholism....
Oh, wait a minute.......

Yes LB - that's a very superior Prosecco - and a very good price.

I've paid more than that for a (poor) glass of fizz in a dump of a theatre 'crush bar' ... enough to send you TT
Don`t be taken in by the supermarket offers - for example this one http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/red-wine/marques-de-montino-rioja-reserva-75cl It`s really horrible. It might be good for use in cooking though

I agree - very often the big supermarkets are offering 'fake' discounts on very ordinary wines.

One current offer that is a genuine reduction and is (for £5.99) a quite decent young Rioja is at the Co-op :

Marques de Valido Rioja Reserva 2010 (£8.99, currently reduced to £5.99)

Not going to set the world on fire, but well worth a try.
IT is SD, I was paying nearly double that price at Waitress for virtually the same drink until I read the DT's review on the Aldi one. Aldi's has the edge, just, on taste but on price, no contest!
I shall be ordering some of the Zin. Thanks :)

And thanks for the thread xx
Samurai, I paid £9.50 for a glass of wine in Bicester Shopping Village a few weeks back...and £14 for a bog standard burger. It depends where you go...
That's criminal NoMercy ! Spain may not be perfect , far from it, but if we pay € 2,50 for a nice glass of ( large ) wine we tend to think we are hard done by.
