Windows 10 Pokki
7 Answers
Sorry for the verbose post...
Acer 572 Laptop, Windows 10
I installed W10 a couple of weeks ago. All good, v happy with it.
However, No biggie, but I'd like to be rid of 'Pokki'...
This morning a new icon appeared at the bottom of my screen, in the task bar.
I'd give a screencap but 'printscreen' doesn't appear to be as straightforward as it was, so I'll try to describe it:
Bottom l/hand screen: Windows icon, search (magnifying glass), 'task view' icon, file explorer (i.e. folder icon for files on pc), Firefox icon, Chrome icon, IE icon, then the new one "POKKI."
When clicked on it says "Welcome to Windows 10! You may continue to use this Start menu alongside the new Windows 10 start menu, or you may uninstall it"
It then gives an option of 'keep menu' or 'Uninstall menu'
Unfortunately the 'uninstall' button does sweet f.a.
I can click the Windows icon to bring up the start menu, find Pokki & click 'Uninstall' but that takes me to the usual 'uninstall or change a program' menu.
Which would be fine, but lo & behold, no friggin Pokki listed.
If you're nerdy enough to have read through the above, please help :)
If not - have a great Bank Holiday weekend!!!

I've had a persistent problem with the Astromenda highjack malware since I first began setting up my brand-new Yoga 2 Pro. MalwareBytes was the second or third app I installed and it immediately found Astromenda. Preinstalled? Who knows? It kept recurring after MB removed it. I might have uninstalled it manually -- I don't remember. I did go into Regedit and rip out every reference, but MB kept picking it up in a Preferences file buried seven layers deep in App Data.
Finally, yesterday after some research to determine the safety of AdwCleaner I downloaded and ran that. It identified Pokki as malware. I had already decided not to use Pokki, especially after reading about problems with it, so I let AdwCleaner do its thing. Pokki is gone. I've restarted half a dozen times, opening and closing Chrome, and rescanned with MalwareBytes. No more sign of Astromenda, even though it is still listed in that Preferences file.

You could try the following, see method 4 re how to remove the Pokki files
http:// www.wik ihow.co m/Unins tall-Po kki

I started to follow the instructions for method 4 on pinkyboyid's Wikihow link, but then found an Uninstall tool in one of the Pokki sub-folders.
Ran the tool, did a restart & it seems to have worked. If it comes back I now know where to look & will delete manually.
Thanks pinkyboyid & whiskeryron.
dzug2 - I would give Method 4 a go.
