Hi, when making scones what would be your glaze of choice for the best results?

Milk, melted butter or egg wash.

Possible sprinkled with soft brown sugar too.

Any other tops welcome :)

egg wash with a little milk. Butter glaze make a greasy top and can have black speckles in it. Sprinkle the brown sugar after baking or towards the end as a burnt sugar top is not appealing.

That sounds great, thank you :) Not baked any for so long and very out of practice but determined to try and make something for a MacMillan Coffee morning tomorrow...whether they are seemed ok to take in is another thing!

Do you think using my whisk will make it worked too much? Means less for my rubbish hands to try to manage. Not got much choice really but determined to try at least.

Question Author
Sorry that should say electric whisk.
what are you going to whisk? A whisk won't rub far into flour :( If you have got a stick blender, you can rub in with that. Can you grate with your poorly hands? You could freeze the fat and grate it into the flour?

Thanks for your advice, went simple and with my hands in the end though it took me quite a while as had to go slow and keep stopping. I don't have a grater any more I don't think as don't grate. Find it easier to use a light vegetable peeler to do thin strips of cheese.

Felt nice to do something I hadn't done for a while though and for a very good cause :) If I try again then it's going to be something that lets me use an electric whisk though!
Egg wash and a sprinkling of castor sugar for me! :)
