I know someone who swears by bacon and marmalade on toast (I can't pluck up the courage for that one, I'm afraid, as I hate marmalade).
I used to be a bar manager in a hotel with a top quality chef. (He trained under Robert Carrier). Whenever it was strawberry season he would reach for the black pepper! (It took me several years before I tried it but strawberries with black pepper & creme freche are just great!).

Cherry tomatoes with caramelised sugar sauce or something like that. My boyfriend's friend who is a chef made this and it tastes wonderful.
I am a bit too lazy right now to look more into this, but this science professor called Peter Barham has worked with the restaurant the Fat Duck where they use chemistry to figure out which ingredients work well together. They have come up with dishes such as salmon and liquorice, sorbet on sardines, ice on toast with scrambled eggs and bacon, and other really wierd stuff. According to a Danish newssite this has given the restaurant three stars in the Micheling Guide.
