Are they worth it and do they taste good? I've seen kits that make 2.5 litres of spirits for around £20 which takes 2 weeks

I don't know about the Kits, but I've got Grandma's recipe for Wheat and Potato Wine, comes out like a half decent Scotch, only stronger.

My dad brewed his own beer and made wine... they were fabulous.... and I slept really well after a few glasses...... go for it.... if it works then move on to making from scratch .... you will become very popular and sleep like a baby!! Hic!!

Home brew 'spirits ' are just flavoured wine.
You can only get to about 14% alcohol. Real spirits at about 60% alcohol have to be distilled which is illegal without a licence.

I believe it is illegal to manufacture spirits in the UK without a distiller's licence

No it isn't illegal it's just you have to pay the greedy fat cats tax or be fined or and arrested

Operating a still is very dangerous, not just the risk of explosion but the deadly fumes. It creates a holy stink so unless you live in a middle of a field in a middle of a forest you are unlikely to get away with it.
