Arthritis On My Foot
11 Answers
Last summer, during a rather fun party, as I opened the freezer to get more ice two of those ice bricks ( what you use in ice boxes for the beach etc ) fell out the freezer, frozen solid , onto my foot. Ouch. Slowly the pain has got worse and finally I went to the orthopedic dr. Who sent me for a MRI scan. I have results today and, after showing it to my daughter ( dr.) she says I have post traumatic arthritis. Has anyone had experience of this? and any hints for the pain relief. I can't take Ibuprofen ( sorry Sqad ) as it raises my BP. It is making it quite painful to walk, and I like to walk a lot. I have tried using creams, but they make difference at all. I have an appointment with the dr. next,, but thought I would ask you all meanwhile.

I was in such pain 5 mths. later that I went to GP because I thought it hadn't healed. One X-ray later showed-up moderately severe arthritis. GP sent me to a specialist for injections into the wrist. After about a week the pain disappeared. It returned 3 months later and I went back in Jan.when he gave a different sort of injection. Once the anaesthetic injection wore off it was very painful for coming up to week, but I have been OK since. I consider it well worth it and will continue with the injections if it recurs. Otherwise, I have been told that surgery can help. :)
After twisting my ankle badly 18 months ago I walked in pain for a year trying all kinds of treatments, had x-rays and MRI scans, finally a specialist sent me to a family-run orthopedic shoe maker who has made me a pair of (not very elegant) boots with a shaped sole insert and which hold the ankle rigid, as soon as I put them on the pain went in a couple of hours, I have been wearing them for 3 months and have been told I shall need to for at least another three.
Your doctor will advise, but if it's on the top of your foot it sounds as if one of your toe joints is affected, walking on it and flexing the joint will only exacerbate the problem. I think rest might be better for it until you get an expert opinion,
Diclofenac was great for removing the pain, but it had very bad side effects in my case - I started peeing blood clots OMG!, but I believe that's rare.
Good luck!
