Gooseberries !

At last the Gooseberry season is here !

I picked about 3 pounds of those pink gosseberries yestserday, and they are now topntailed and in my freezer !

The pink ones are slightly tart, but not as tart as the green varieties. Stewed with custard....yummy !

I was only thinking the other day that you don't see so many gooseberries around any more, I love them.

pips....you have to be very quick to get them in the shops, as the season is over before you know it. I picked mine in a local pick-your-own.

Market stalls and farmers markets are a good place to look. And they freeze very well indeed. Last night I the last of the 2015 crop....from the back of the freezer !

The only gooseberries we get here are Chinese Gooseberries re-named as Kiwi Fruit. Furry skin, green inside and very yummy.
