If you're worried about salmonella or want to prolong the shelf life, then refrigerate. If however, you can't be arsed with the hassle of remembering to take the eggs out of the fridge an hour before you cook them (eggs cooked at fridge-temperature will crack), just leave them in a dark, dry cupboard. I've never bothered refrigerating them & I've never got ill as a result.
I agreed with whiskygalore you should never cook cold eggs, maybe someone should point this out to fridge manufacturers! I've never refrigerated eggs and have yet to suffer any ill effects
I read about this, supermarkets say their shops are temperature regulated so the eggs are cool enough without being in the fridge. Supermarkets are always cold!
Someone told me once that you should always store eggs with the more pointed end facing downwards. I haven't the faintest idea why, i just do as i'm told.
I used to work in a super market and we never kept the eggs in a cold environment. Also there was no need to keep Margarine in the cold store either. we used to keep things like flora next to the beans in the warehouse. I think they kept it cold when displayed to fit it in with the butter but logically there is no more need to keep marg in the fridge than veg oil etc.
