Sour Milk Smell

Just got back from a few days away (not sure it was worth it) to find that some nameless person had spilt milk in the fridge and although they had cleaned it up from the shelves some had gone under the salad container in the bottom and had congealed, you can probably imagine the smell when I opened the door for the cup of tea I had been looking forward to all the way back. I have emptied everything out and thoroughly washed the inside of the fridge, all shelves and drawers with warm water and bi-carb but each time I open the door the smell is still there, anyone any ideas what I can try next apart from buying a new fridge. any suggestions would be most appreciated

Is there like a tiny plug hole at the back? If the stagnant milk got down inside, that's why it's stinking. If you see it, pop some bi-carb mixed with lemon juice down.

A trip to the pet shop might help. This stuff is guaranteed to get rid of organic odours:

(It's also useful to have around the house for when your puppy leaves a present on your carpet, your grandchild throws up on the floor, etc, etc)

Thanks Patsy33 but the milk didn't get down the plug hole, it was in the separate salad box that has a solid base and sits at the front of the fridge well away from it. but thanks for the suggestion.

Try leaving a tub of bicarb powder in it over night.

thanks for the suggestion Buenchico, I have some in the house, have you experience of using it in a fridge, I just wonder if it is safe to use on the plastic interior.

My fridge stank because it had been off for three days.

Everything was washed in bicarb water and magically, the smell disappeared.

I've not had a fridge for over a decade but I've used that stuff on lots of surfaces and never had a problem. Further, I've just checked the manufacturer's website and I can't see anything which sets alarm bells ringing in my mind.

Another bonus of using bicarb water is that the whites of your nails become extremely white.
