Michel Roux Jr Admits Restaurant Staff Get No Share Of Service Charge

Earlier this week, Roux admitted that he paid his staff less than the minimum wage, and now he admits the he keep 100% of the service charge !

So,, I am not sure what the Service Charge is for, if its not shared amongst the Staff ?

The waiting staff should get the money from the service charge. My OH gives less in tips if a service charge has already been added. The staff should get it.

Having said that, I've just come back from USA where, as we know, you have to tip almost everyone for everything. I find it really awkward. Do I really have to give a man a few dollars for hailing a taxi for me while there are loads of them waiting for passengers anyway? If you don't tip enough you get tuts and dirty looks.

Cliverjo - the difference with American workers is that tipping is built into their wage structure - they are taxed on the tips which they customarily receive, which is why they get upset with the Brits who don't tip them.
